Here is an update on Tim Sharrock. Connie tells me that even though the storm was raging Wednesday, Tim was on one of only 4 flights that got to leave Columbus that morning. So he arrived in Maputo safe and sound to work with other Gideons for the week or so before the team arrives. He reported that Ethiopian Air was a good airline to fly. Not sure myself about the airline, I went online last night to learn a little more about Ethiopian Air and was happy to see they have been in business for about 60 years and the planes we will fly in are brand new 777-200LRs, a modern and very high tech model. Most importantly for those of us stuck in our seats for 12 hours straight on the long leg of the trip, these planes have personal TV/movie/game monitors built into the seats.
For those of you on the team packing for the trip, here is an important detail about your carry-ons based on Tim's experience this past Wednesday......from Connie..... "carry on update...United is very very very very strict on the carry on...It cannot be over 9 " deep 22" long 14"' wide. They will measure it and if its over they will make you check it at a fee of 65.00.Then in DC Ethiopian Air will weigh it. No more than 15 lbs. they will weigh it and if its over they make you check it at 60.00.Tim said they didn't seem to worry about the weight of his briefcase, only the carry on....he had to check it and pay..." So be sure your carry-on complies with the size restrictions and is under 15 pounds. I have never had to worry about the weight of my carry-on before. This is a new restriction.
I understand that Leonard Lashmit and Pastor Russ Gumm have agreed to be our drivers to the airport Saturday "morning". Thank you guys for being willing to make this airport run in the middle of the night. We meet Saturday morning at 1:00AM at MV First to load up and head for Port Columbus!
